Workshop
POST CONFERENCE WORKSHOP:
Wednesday 24th March 9.00am-12.00pm
The Medico Legal Implications of E-Health
Widespread implementation and adoption of eHealth initiatives
may soon become a reality in Australia. Other countries with
similar health systems have already taken significant steps,
notably the National Health Service in the United Kingdom.
This workshop explores the lessons that Australia can learn from
the development and implementation of the NHSs Connecting
for Health initiatives in the UK and also from several initiatives
that have been operating in rural and remote Australia. Key
considerations include designing a system that is health provider
centric and adequately addresses the privacy and
security requirements.
This workshop will consider:
> Background to Connecting for Health in the UK- > Barriers to effective access to electronic records
- > Issues and lessons learned procurement, contract management, implementation and infrastructure considerations
- > Importance of standards
- > Clinicians perspective on an effective eHealth system
- > Privacy and data security challenges
- > Case studies in rural and remote medicine
This workshop is intended for health administrators and
practitioners, information technology professionals and legal
practitioners with an interest or responsibility for eHealth
initiatives.
